Passing a drug test depends on the type of test, the type of drug and how soon you need to pass the test. The only infallible way to pass a drug test is to not do drugs.

Generally drug tests are done one of three ways; a urine sample, a hair sample or an oral swab. Employment drug tests, which are the most common, are usually urine or oral as this method is the fastest and most cost effective. You may not know ahead of time what type of drug test you will be given, because of this it may be best, to ensure you pass is to take preventive measures on all three types of drug tests. As soon as you find out you'll need to take a drug test it's important you begin to prepare. The first step in passing a drug test is to stop using the drug at least for the time being. Then you’ll want to decide which method or methods of passing a drug test you would like to use as there are many methods for the various types of drug tests.

• Urine testing options: Note a urine test will detect drug use within a few days to a month.

• System Dilution: This method entails drinking excess amounts of fluid such as water or cranberry juice in an attempt to flush the system. If there is ample time before the test and your drug use is minor this method may be effective. There are also many pills and potions so to speak available that will cause a urine test to come up clean. Most of them require several hours to be effective.

Please note that while many suggest substituting the urine used for testing with someone else's urine or a synthetic replacement, this is an illegal option and won't be covered here. When it comes to a test as important as a drug test you are better off keeping it legal anyway.

• Saliva testing options: Note a saliva test will detect drug use only within three days.

The only way to pass a saliva drug test is to not do drugs three days before the test. If you have done any drugs within three days avoidance is the answer. You can avoid drug testing by being unable to supply identification at the time of the test.

The only way to pass a hair drug test is to cease use and then use clarifying shampoos and/or a toxin remover rinse. (costs around $75.00) As hair testing is expensive it is less commonly done.

Note: Blood testing is also a way to detect drug use, but this method is rarely used.

Now that you know the basic methods to passing the three types of drug tests and have decided which are necessary in your situation it’s time to get supplies.

If you’ve stopped drug use and still have at least three days before your drug test, the saliva test is covered. If you don’t have three days, try to reschedule or simply forget your identification the day of the test. It is possible to pass a saliva swab drug test if you have done drugs within three days if you get lucky, however the longer the span of time between the test and the drug use the better.

In the case of pre-caution for hair or urine drug testing you will need to go shopping.

Depending on the method or methods to pass your drug test you choose you naturally will not need all of these items.

The final step is to put your supplies into action. To do this in most cases you’ll simply be following the instructions on the packaging of the product you bought. If you chose to simply try and flush your system, drink as much of the fluid you purchased as possible.

Remember, most importantly do not use drugs any more until after your test.

How long drugs stay in your system:

• Amphetamines: two to four days.
• Barbiturates: two days to four weeks.
• Cocaine: two to four days.
• Marijuana: ten to sixty-three days.
• Methamphetamine: three to five days.
• Opiates: five to seven days.

Time periods vary from frequency of use and the strength of drug used. Also note these numbers are entirely useless in the case of a hair drug test. Drug use can be seen in the hair indefinitely, however most drug tests only look at enough length to see ninety to one hundred and twenty days.
